1/12/19- Sea Update

Ted here for Out to Sea,

With warmer, wetter weather approaching in the coming week, this weekend is looking to be a solid time to get out in the water. Divers are reporting 10-15ft visibility, with a lot of variability, along the Breakwater off San Carlos beach. Lots of people in the water throughout the day so getting in early is key to getting the best conditions.

A local diver on Friday morning reportedly sighted a 12-15ft great white shark off San Carlos beach. No other reports so far on the sighting and no action has been taken by local authorities.

Fishing as been slow lately. With rockfish season closed, a lot of anglers are shifting focus to the local rivers and shore fishing. Surf perch bite has been hot all along the local beaches. Live sand crabs, as well as jerk baits and Coolbaits have been the key to a successful day surf fishing. Fish up to 2lbs, with small striped bass mixed in have been the usual bag. Big Sur fishing has been tough even for the hardiest of us. Large swell and high winds have made fishing the rocks quite treacherous.

Just got a large shipment of crucial salmon gear in the shop this week. Come by and check out the new deals we have in store for the coming season.

Tight lines and stay safe
